EARLY ADOLESCENT KIDS

kids-circleAdolescence starts earlier in modern generations than previous ones lasting twice as long as it did in the 1950s. So children are hitting puberty earlier than ever before said Psychology professor Laurence Steinberg who explained why to BrainwavesAdolescence is a period of life between starting puberty and becoming stable, independent adults. This time is being extended because some children begin puberty earlier.Kids-Diverse-1

Adolescence is three times as long as it was in the 19th Century and it’s twice as long as in the 1950s.
Professor Laurence Steinberg

According to Professor Steinberg, in the western world adolescence runs from age 10 or to about age 25. Professor Steinberg attributed this phenomenon of lengthening of adolescence to several surprising factors as follows:youth-world-header-large

Obesity & Man-made Chemicals

The first and most important is obesity. The kids who are fatter go through puberty earlier than the leaner kids he said. Man-Made Chemicals. There are other factors as well. One has to do with the exposure of children to endocrine-disrupting chemicals in the man-made environment. The chemicals are not just in food, they’re in cosmetics, they’re in plastics, they’re in pesticides they’re ubiquitous.” “When people are exposed to these endocrine disrupters it alters their hormonal development and many chemicals lead to earlier onset puberty mostly in girls.”hot

More SunLight exposure

The third factor that’s been discovered fairly recently has to do with exposure to sunlight.” It turns out that kids who grow up near the equator go through puberty earlier than kids who grow up near the north or south pole and that’s because, when you grow up near the equator, you have more exposure to sunlight over the course of childhood years.” While it may not be of too much concern to parents in northern Europe, recent research suggests a final factor which applies to many children here.

“Scientists discovered recently the light emanating from tablets or smartphones or computer screens can affect onset of puberty by disrupting brain’s melatonin system. Kids who spend more and more time in front of these screens especially in front of the blue light emitted by the devices probably contributed to earlier puberty as well. Light from the phones impacts brains of kids and adults.“World-Population-889x591.jpg

Adolescent Brainwaves

Brainwaves of the adolescent brain as Pennie Latin examines is relatively a young field of teenage neurology. It has revealed lack of frontal cortex ability to understand risk and consequences. And so although adolescent children may hit puberty earlier, they may not be able to handle the harsh realities of the trauma of war years, distress, rations, famine, lack of tough physical life forced upon previous generations. They worked in factories, chimney sweepers, railway as tracks as children making them more mature. They develop faster on growth spurt but face challenges of the modern generation.

EXPRESS MARRIAGE TRENDS

Sophy on her wedding day in traditional attireWith Valentine day approaching people are looking for love and romance for a form relationships. So couples celebrate established meaningful, love fulfilling a family bond. Others also ready to settle down prepare and advertise for love in new ways using social media, Facebook post and was married six days later. The marriage took place quite quickly than the normal traditional longer process of a family searching and taking years for the marriage to be finalised. CHIDIMMA AMEDU, did exactly that advertising for love and marriage on Facebook. He found a beautiful wife who said, ‘he is the most handsome man I’ve ever met and I liked him instantly.” Those who use Facebook come across pretty strange posts in their time. But this time however the random friends requests, being added to groups you did not ask to join, and tags allows “friends” to marry. Others clog up timeline with posts or photos you don’t necessarily want. But a Nigerian man took it to a whole new level posted unusual advert. Chidimma Amedu put up a post on 30 December, asking women interested in being his wife to reply, he told the BBC.Chidimma Amedu on his wedding day

The proposal

“Am of age to and I am ready to say I do and am wasting no time. “Send in your applications – the most qualified will be married on January 6, 2018. Application closes 12 midnight 31/12/2017 he posted. He followed up with subsequent posts. ‘Am serious about this oh and don’t say you did not see it on time Good luck.’ He received a couple of responses, but one from Sophy Ijeoma is someone special who caught his attention. She wrote in her reply “Am interested, just DM me… lols,” her post read. At first, she thought it was a joke and she simply replied to keep thread flowing. A direct message from him to her inbox, followed by a Facebook call, would change her life’s trajectory. Chidimma placed the advert initially as a joke but became optimistic when Sophy said she was interested. So two days after their first conversation, he travelled some 500km (300 miles) from his home in the northern city of Abuja, to Enugu in the east where she lived. She had been waiting for him outside a retail store and in true fairy-tale style, “it was love at first sight”, she recalled. “He is the most handsome man I’ve ever met and I liked him instantly.”The couple on their wedding day in Igbo attire

After 2 hours of awkward conversation, he asked her to go to meet an uncle who incidentally is also resident in Enugu. So he asked what was going through her mind at the time, she said she thought it was all a bit of a joke but was excited about it and thought Chidimma was also quite an interesting character. “We got to the uncle’s house and he said: ‘Uncle, meet the woman I want to marry.'” Like Chidimma his family don’t seem to hang about when it comes to getting things done because uncle gave his approval. The couple are friends on Facebook for over a year but never spoken to each other before the advert. Getting family backing for your choice of spouse is an essential part of Igbo culture. Whereas picking your future wife from dozens of respondents to a Facebook marriage advert and marrying her in six days is decidedly not. At this point in their day-old relationship, it was beginning to dawn on Sophy that this fellow was not playing, but how do you commit to marrying someone you only just me. She would not comment on whether they had even shared as much as a kiss at that point, but maintained she was captivated by how focused, determined her new fiancé was. “When I saw him for the first time, I definitely found him attractive, but what I didn’t know was how serious he was about marrying me. “It was after we met the uncle and his wife, I realised that this could actually happen and I wanted it.”A family member felicitate with the couple

The engagement

It was now her turn to worry about how she was going to get the approval of her family to marry a guy she had just met on Facebook. But they had momentum going for them. Having met and fallen in love at first sight, or first message, if you like, and getting Chidimma’s uncle’s approval, couple decided to complete the cycle by visiting Sophy’s family the same day. Approval from the family is essential in Igbo tradition and Sophy recounted how she relayed information to her mother. Her dad passed away, and her mum said she did not have a final word in terms of giving approval for her to be married, so up to Sophy’s elder brother to give his blessings. It appears the odds firmly in their favour as Sophy’s brother gave his blessings too. So after a few questions from her brother it became official. Chidimma and Sophy were engaged to be married in six days. The happy couple cutting their cake

On the rebound?

Last year Chidimma was engaged to another woman and the wedding was scheduled for December, but then that relationship fell apart in March leaving him dejected. As December approached, the disappointment of not being able to fulfil his dream of getting married made him put up the post, he said. In wedding it was a blend of old and new “I had the desire to get married, had date in mind, but no bride, decided to place an advert as a joke, but I was open and up for it.”  Asked whether she knew about earlier engagement and her thoughts on how this seemingly rushed marriage might be seen as a rebound, Sophy dismissed any suggestions that her relationship was not well thought through. “I don’t care about that when you see what you want, you go for it.” They are friends on Facebook for more than a year, but had never met or spoken to each other until the advert. Am interested just DM me… lols” was all it took for the union to be formed. Sophy admitted her friends were sceptical about the whole thing, while some are still in disbelief, but as she said: “When you see the one, you will know he is the one.” And they got married on 6 January in a traditional Igbo ceremony, and posted photos of wedding day on Facebook of course to the amusement of the social media community. Chidimma put up a post saying people may have thought he had been joking but clearly wasn’t. And as expected there was mixed reactions, but mainly a lot of support for the couple. They hope to have a church wedding in April and honeymoon somewhere nice.

GETTING RID OF SPIDERS

1. Squish it with a tissue

This is the easiest, and most common, way to kill a spider. Squish it in a tissue, and then throw it away in a trash/flush it down the toilet. Easy.

2. Step on it with boot

If the spider is bigger than like, oh, a dime, your best bet might be to get a large and heavy boot, put boot on, and SQUISH IT WITH ALL YOUR MIGHT.how-to-get-rid-of-spiders-in-bedroom-how-to-safely-get-rid-of-spiders-from-your-house-top-10-home-ideas-768x512

3. Place a cup over it

Maybe there’s a small pain in your heart every time you a kill a bug, because bugs are living things, too. So maybe you decided to corral the spider underneath a cup, and hope it can’t get any air (how do spiders breath?) and it slowly suffocates underneath your blue kitchen cup. BE SURE TO PUT THIS CUP IN THE DISHWASHER.

4. Call someone to help

Maybe you don’t want to kill the bug, but you want someone else to. Grab that cup, place it over the spider, and then wait until your significant other/a friend/the cable repair man comes over and you’re like “Hey, so I’ve got this spider underneath this cup…”

5. Vacuum it up Hoover

Do you not want to touch the spider whatsoever, but want to get rid of it ASAP? You know that vacuum you’ve got in your kitchen closet? Detach the hose, and suck that little sucker right up (and then give it an appropriate amount of time, so you know the spider is 100% dead, and empty your vacuum out).spider_chart

6. Spray it with Raid

Raid was invented to kill bugs so using a spray or two (or a whole can) of Raid on eight-legged beast should do the trick.

7. Spray with hairspray

Do you not have Raid, because last time you were at Target you were like, “Ugh, why is Raid so expensive? Something that kills spiders should be FREE!” If you don’t have Raid, hairspray usually does a pretty good job of immobilizing spiders. Not that I’ve killed a lot of spiders with expensive frizz-control hairspray before.

8. Douse it with water

Some spiders comes out of nowhere and if worried that it’ll get away before you can get a tissue/a shoe/Raid, all you’ve got is a cup of water. THROW THAT CUP OF WATER OVER THE SPIDER! SPIDERS CANNOT SWIM! Don’t do this, while sitting on your couch. That’s a bad idea.

9. Use paper & throw out

This one is hard. First, you need a piece of paper, and then you need to be brave enough to get close enough to the spider and hope and pray it makes it onto the piece of paper, and doesn’t scurry away in the opposite direction. Then you need to walk towards a window, once again hoping and praying that the spider doesn’t start crawling on the paper towards you, and maybe to your hand, and then up your arm, and oh boy. Actually, don’t try this one at home.

10. Ignore & hope it dies

No time like present to start symbiotic relationship with the spider! Whatever you do, DO NOT SET FIRE TO SPIDER INDOORS!!! It may crawl burning and spread the fire to set house on fire as recently happened in America. Pin the spider through with a fork or a kebab stick firmly while wearing gloves to be safe if poisonous and burn safely sealed in a container outside. If bitten some spiders must be preserved to show the medics to help identify type of spider for a correct antidote. So do not let fear overcome you to be frightened or panic to let anxiety set in and miss the spider.

11. Scream for help

This one will not actually do anything to spider but hope neighbours come to your aid.

FOOD IS YOUR MEDICINE

A North Carolina Gospel Minister Sows Seeds of Hope in a Food Desert in USA. The Reverend Richard Joyner of Conetoe Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Conetoe, NC, exhorts his congregants to strengthen their community. First, the Reverend Richard Joyner got mad. Then he got a trowel. Sick and tired of seeing his congregation suffer from poor nutrition, the North Carolina minister sowed seeds of hope in a food desert. ABOUT A DECADE AGO, the Reverend Richard Joyner of Conetoe Chapel Missionary Baptist Church realized he ministered to a congregation of people often hungry and living in poverty but never complained. He came up with an ingenious use of land that helped keep the young ones involved in learning about nature first hand. The Church members unfamiliar with farming in the city are educated on how to grow own good produce.  The pastor found it difficult to comfort grieving or contain his outrage: “How do you tell someone who’s just lost a child to poor nutrition that this was God’s plan when it was totally preventable? Who would hang out with that God?” Each Sunday, Joyner felt like a hypocrite, urging congregants to worship a deity he doubted. During the week, he was forced to confront the community’s health problems constantly as a hospital chaplain. After one particularly trying hospital shift, Joyner pulled his car over and began to pray. “I heard a voice saying, ‘Open your eyes and look around,’” the 64-year-old remembers. All he saw was farmland. His parents and grandparents had been share- croppers; his great-grandparents, slaves. That moment fields blanketing Edgecombe County represented not untapped opportunity but a painful reminder of the region’s racist past.

IMG_20180106_145430

Young people enjoy outdoors activity so this roadside epiphany directly inspired the church’s now-bustling nonprofit agriculture and education center might construct a tidy narrative. It would, however, be inaccurate. Back in 2005, when Joyner first equipped area youth with seeds and spades on a borrowed plot down the road, he simply hoped to engage kids at summer camp. The campers consumed their initial harvest, but the following year, they started delivering free boxes of ‘Hen Pecked’ mustard greens, ‘Puerto Rican Red’ sweet potatoes and the vegetables to local senior citizens. “One 97-year-old lady, she was so excited, she kissed the children,” Joyner says. “That was the first time in a long time I witnessed anybody speaking a blessing over our troubled children.” Not everyone welcomes bounty. Only a generation or two removed from sharecropping, some church elders questioned the wisdom of participating in any sort of agrarian pursuit. They remained uncomfortably familiar with Edgecombe County’s role in the South’s antebellum cotton economy. Henry Toole Clark, a Civil War–era governor of North Carolina, owned a vast plantation—and dozens of slaves here. Joyner explains prevailing concern: “Do we really want our kids going back to that?” He empathized. Then again, he’d witnessed satisfaction junior parishioners derived from the soil. Less encumbered by Conetoe’s complicated history, they were free to dig in the dirt. “They’re bringing food to people who need it,” Joyner says. “They enjoy the process. They’re playing out there.” Meanwhile, various activities on the farm like preparing beds, selecting seeds, tending crops, selling produce, tracking digital data impart valuable lessons in science, technology, exercise, economics, math, and nutrition.IMG_20180106_150511

THE GET RICH QUICK SCHEMES

A record £1.1bn in overpaid benefits was recovered from fraudsters last year

People lose millions in online ‘get rich quick’ schemes according to an article in the news once again on binary options trading. In Israel and Canada, binary options trading is illegal as Adele Robinson, the News Correspondent stated in the news. An online investment scam targeting people through social media has seen the amount of money lost by victims in the UK rise by 400,000% in six years. Figures from Action Fraud show the amount lost to “binary options” trading increased from £6,200 in 2012, to £27m in 2017 alone, with the total currently standing at £61m. Binary option or fixed odds betting are being used by fraudsters as part of a multi-billion pound industry which is believed to be co-ordinated by overseas criminals. A binary option is where you can gamble on an outcome, usually something to go up or down, with the pay-off being a fixed amount or nothing at all. One example would be to bet on whether the value of gold will be above or below a certain price and investors believe they can gain high returns on little amounts. Consumer group Which? has described binary options scam as “Britain’s biggest investment con” with illegitimate companies targeting victims through pop up adverts online and cold-calling.Frank Thornburrow believes he was conned

Frank Thornburrow was targeted through social media and believes he was conned. As an investment idea it first appeared ten years ago but the industry has grown exponentially in recent years. Detective Sergeant Alex Eristavi from the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau, run by the City of London police, says people are being defrauded on a daily basis. “There is no typical victim,” he told Sky News, “they are just ordinary folk like you and me. The youngest one is 19 years old, that we have recorded so far, and the oldest is 93, so it’s a wide spectrum. “It’s fair to say with binary options coming into play the average victim’s age of investment fraud has dropped because previously it was over 60 and now it’s early 50s. “It’s because the younger generation are taking part in this activity, and it could be easily explained as social media is a lot to do with it, the advertisements and the pop ups etc.”The City of London is home to the UK's financial services sectorThe Financial Conduct Authority will begin to regulate binary options trading this year. Binary options trading is currently regulated by the Gambling Commission but from January 2018 the Financial Conduct Authority will take over. In other countries like Israel and Canada, it has been banned completely. Frank Thornburrow from Kent, lost his life savings when he invested in binary options. He has been unable to get any money back and told Sky News that he believes he was conned. He gives one example from an email telling him that to access his money he would have to make 150,000 trades, which was money he simply did not have. “The last couple of years haven’t been easy,” he said. “I lost my daughter couple of years ago when she died of cancer. I retired and I was looking for a way of making money so I tried binary because it looked good. “And basically it was a big con, it didn’t work out and I lost a lot of money. I’ve ended up with a triple bypass, so that’s the impact it’s had on me.” There is also concern that students are falling victims to scam companies after gambling with their maintenance grants to “flip” their money, according to Action Fraud. The advice from police is that “if you don’t know the field, don’t get involved in it” as there are “so many rogue companies out there.” Which? carried out its own investigations into binary options companies and found evidence of “bad practice across the board”, with high pressure sales tactics and “unfair” terms and conditions. Jenni Allen, managing director at Which? Money, said: “We found for instance that people making a deposit had to invest up to forty times that deposit to even access their money again. “I think most worryingly found examples of where actual data being used was rigged by the company so your initial investments would return some form of profit in return but thereafter you would receive loss after loss.”

THE ORION SEEN IN UK SKY

orion-taurus_5-stacked-ended-w-img0054_2300_010416We saw Orion belt and M42 nebula culmination at midnight on 1st January 2018 immediately during the New Year celebrations in UK. We wanted to look at the fireworks outside in the sky but was pleasantly surprised by Orion. First seen was orion nebula as we focused more Orion became clearer because the cloud lifted the belt in full view. We called other people to come and watch it with us until it went out of view so we continued the New Year celebrations. This particularly a special moment for us because God revealed Orion to us in three previous dreams 3 times. We have see the Orion for many years as part of night sky wonders of God’s creation. God specifically already revealed Orion three times in visions and dreams already blogged about in previous post. This1-Q7esli9-w9JXy2sxyMnxEg orionThese dream visions of God is again repeated twice in one night on 6th January, 2018 between my sleep breaks. I woke up in the middle of the night and went to check something then went back to bed to sleep again. This same night God repeated Orion vision to me again same night. Prophetically, Jesus is the Orion expected in the sky clouds for Rapture and later the Second Coming for Armageddon. Only God knows reasons for repeating the Orion symbols in the sky. The Orionid Meteor Star Showers in annual Orionid Meteor Shower. This regular showers are derived from the celestial materials left by repeated passages of Comet Halley which runs from October 4 to November 14. It is followed by visible presence by Orion belt globally all the way from December to January 7th 2018. Those with giant Telescopes track Orion throughout the year within the 26 constellations of earth’s galaxy.Orion (1)Especially from early nightimes between 9pm through midnight go the early hours of the morning about 2:30 am. So many beautiful pictures are taken by various Telescopes all over the world. UW researchers are ready for the new era of unistellar Telescopes. Astronomers and Physicists reveals the Orion nebula seen here in more detail than amateur Telescopes or seen by the naked eyes. The ZTF “first light” image is shown here (inset) within the Orion constellation. The Orion nebula can be seen within the ZTF image that captured view of 247 noons within it’s range. These details are observed better directly by these Telescopes. Other larger Telescopes portray the Orion nebula seen as red spot in the sword of Orion. The red spot in Orion sword represents Biblically the birth and death of stars symbolic metaphorically of life and eternal death by judgement of Jesus Sword coming from Jesus mouth. Those who accept Jesus Christ will live eternally but those condemned are damned by hellfire.1-withlaunchof

Seeing orion after visions makes us paid more attention and take notice from the prophetic point of view. This time we observed Orion with new interest and passion seeing magnificent presence of God’s signs and wonders in the sky. It is amazing how beautiful and glorious God’s night sky is. To see Orion as the first sight during this New Year’s celebration makes it more amazing. The Almighty God reveals HIS secrets to the prophets so we trust God to understand better HIS symbolic end time messages. God uses the normal, routine and daily occurrences to communicate to people. The UMD Astronomers partner on powerful new automatic sky survey. UMD scientists will use powerful new telescope camera for research and education to bring detailed knowledge. Academic excellence is good and essential yet must not over rule God’s marvellous creations on the universe so give God the credit as patent creator and owner of the firmaments.

Orion Constellation (ground-based image)The world must know in Biblical terms  the Orion represents Jesus with sickle coming to harvest the wheat and tares. The Orion is also called the Hunter now easy to view since 27th November 2017 depending on the visibility and location. From January 01 to January 07 2018 the sky will be filled also as follows with the largest SUPERMOON’ on January 1-2. So again on 4th January, moon and regulus will be seen. Then Orion the Hunter will be seen again on 5th January 2018. The brightest seen is the orion nebula often with the three stars above. The nebula is where stars are birthed and also die. It is marvellous to see indepth of nebula with bright multiple colours in Orion trapezium. NASA recorded years of the various aspects of Orion throughout the years. These was compiled and turned into indepth data accumulated for the Scientists and amateurs to study.

Sirius_Orion_10-3-2012_Susan_Jensen_Odessa_WA (1)Watch out for the Orion the 3 Kings the easiest to identify of all constellations rising from mid-evening. It started from late November to late December when some people begun to notice the Orion in the evening sky and comment on it. Orion climbed over the eastern horizon around 9 p.m. that night so found orion constellation and watching it for the months to come. The most noticeable part of Orion is the pattern called Orion’s Belt: 3 medium bright stars in a short straight row from mid-northern latitudes. Orion appears to be lying on the side with 3 Belt stars pointing upward when first ascends up eastern sky in mid-evening this time of year. Orion’s bright star Betelgeuse and Ridel shine on opposite sides of the Belt.

Stars trails constellation Orion through EarthSky Facebook  image Jean Baptiste Feldman displayed. Can you pick three stars in Orion’s Belt? Notice different colours of stars in Orion. Beneath the sky, Orion will climb higher in the sky. When this constellation is highest in the south it is a huge noticeable star pattern clearly sesn. But Orion doesn’t reach its highest point until an hour or two after midnight that’s local time, for all times zones around the world at this time of year. Like all the stars, Orion’s stars rise some four minutes earlier with each of the passing day about two hours earlier with each passing month. If you see Orion shining in the east at 9:00 p.m. tonight, look for Orion to be in the same place in the sky at 7:00 p.m. that month. Orion due south at 1:30 a.m. and again Orion due south from 11:30 p.m. in the last month of December 2017.

As we move around sun perspective on stars surrounding us shifts. At the same hour daily all stars in eastern half of sky climb up a bit higher whereas all the stars in the western half of sky sink a bit closer to the western horizon. Are you familiar with the W- or M-shaped constellation Cassiopeia the Queen? Or Polaris, the North Star? As Orion rises in the east evening, look for Cassiopeia to soar to highest point for the night, above Polaris in northern sky.

Karthik Easvur caught the constellation Orion on November 26, 2016, from his balcony in Hyderabad, India. The round translucent object in the photo, by the way, is a lens flare - an internal reflection from Karthik's camera - like caused by the same artificial light that's illuminating the palm tree on the right.

Karthik Easvur  recorded constellation Orion on November 26, 2016, from his balcony in Hyderabad, India. The round translucent object in photo, by the way, is a lens flare internal reflection from Karthik’s camera likely caused by the same artificial light illuminating palm tree on right. The famous constellation Orion Hunter rose at mid-evening in late November and early December. This is seen in the midnight culmination on New Years Eve in UK. We saw this brightest star in the sky, Sirius, in the constellation Canis Major. This star is up in evening every year at this time from all parts of Earth except those far-southern realms in continuous daylight Sirius is easy to identify. December 31 is a special night as end of calendar year. And it is also special night for Sirius too. This star’s official midnight culmination  is highest in sky at midnight comes only once every year. At midnight time in the night the Northern Hemisphere looked toward the south and easily noticed the Sirius shining there at around midnight. From the Southern Hemisphere others look overhead or high in north around midnight. And this middle of the night, experience midway between sunset and sunrise shows this star is so bright that you might notice it twinkling fiercely, from northerly latitudes, where the star stays closer to the horizon. You might even see it flashing hints of different colours. When you see Sirius high in the sky, as you will from Earth’s Southern Hemisphere shine with a bright, steady white light. Remember the midnight culmination of Sirius by clock might be off as much as half hour or depending on how far east or west you live from meridian governing your time zone.
Orion_12-March-2012_Nick-Lomb-1Appearance of Orion depends so it is worth noting that the shape and the location of Orion changes depending on the northern and southern hemisphere. Therefore Orion appears tilted at angles different from various places. Sometime Orion is also seen upside down due to ecliptic movement directions. Whatever the position of the Orion takes either up standing or upside down it is clearly identified and seen globally. It is worth noting God uses symbols and wonderful signs to rely messages to world as was done to Job in Bible concerning Orion and 7 stars Pleadez. The shared beauty of the skies is a giant canvass God uses to manifest HIS existence to all people. As said earlier in this post, when God uses repetition to emphasise a message it is worth noting and being taken very seriously. For some reason God chose to repeat Orion vision with accurate detail and numbers exactly as recoreded by the scientific data. Only God knows the purpose of revealing Orion but like Job it is a message of hope in the midst of adversity and suffering. People all over the world sometimes feel like Job who was shown Orion by God to reassure him of God’s Providence and remind him that His cared about his challenges. As we seen God’s signs and wonders let us be aware of God’s Love, Grace, Mercy and Hope of redemption in Christ.

Even from big cities, you can see Sirius, the sky’s brightest star. Gowrishankar Lakshminarayanan created this composite image on December 26, 2017 and wrote: “After a series of clouded night skies in New York City, we finally got a clear night though it was bitter cold and the temperature dropped to 25 F.! Here you can see the brightest star of the winter night sky Sirius and its path as it rises in the southeast sky to clip the spire of the Freedom Tower. This is a 78-image composite, spaced 30 seconds apart. I always thought that star trails within light-polluted city skies weren’t a good idea, since we hardly see any stars. de-constellatie-van-orion-16935269Thanks to God for bright stars like Orion, Sirius and others we see a nice star trail in NYC!” If celebrating the New Year, and you happen to gaze up at the sky, look for Sirius. This star’s midnight culmination – when it’s highest in the sky at midnight We are were pleased to find this article by Bruce McClure who served as lead writer for EarthSky’s popular Tonight pages since 2004. He’s a sundial aficionado, whose love for the heavens has taken him to Lake Titicaca in Bolivia and sailing in the North Atlantic, where he earned his celestial navigation certificate through School of Ocean Sailing and Navigation. He writes and hosts public astronomy programs and planetarium programs in and around home in upstate New York. Watch again for Orion on 5th January and have a Blessed New Year.  It is seen again in other parts of the globe depending on location and position of stars.
