In Luke 1:26-28 angel Gabriel appears to Mary chosen by God to be the Mother of Jesus. The angel greeted Mary and said, ‘You are truly blessed! The Lord is with you. Tradition requires, a new mother rests caring for babie’s needs day or night. To alleviate stress on new mother, relatives like Mary, siblings and family members rally around to support Elizabeth. Help fetch water for her, clean house, cook food for family members, guests around daily. Wash baby’s clothes, do the family laundry, provide respite care continuing months until Elizabeth is strong enough able to do so herself. As one good turn deserves another, woman helps others on maternity leave helped in turn. After staying with Elizabeth to support her through her delivery Mary returned to her own house in Nazareth. In 9 months Mary was due to deliver the baby Jesus.
They travelled to Bethlehem for census to be counted, Mary rode a donkey due to her condition. It was too difficult for a heavily pregnant woman to walk that far. The pressure and weight of a baby was too much to bear. Mary and Joseph arrived too late to find room in an inn. They found a manger where baby Jesus, KING of kings was born to care for baby Jesus and made Him warm, comfortable and well fed. His parents showered the baby Jesus with great love and affection. They wrapped Him nicely to keep Him warm, looked after Him despite humble beginning of His life in the manger.
When babies are born well wishers visit family to give congratulations. His name called JESUS as angel said before He was conceived in the womb. In Luke 2:22-38 angels appeared to Shepherds to invite them to visit Jesus. They worshipped the Saviour and gave thanks to God. They gave Jesus gifts of sheep and lambs and visited. Three wise magi kings Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar visited baby Jesus to pay homage to honour Him KING of Kings. Jesus grew up a Jewish boy stated in Luke 2: 41-52 Jesus continued to grow up in stature and wisdom and increased in favour with God and man. Jesus lived in Nazareth His home thirty years with father, mother, siblings and left home at 30 years to Capernaum but starts His public ministry at 33 years.

CHRISTMAS meals vary depending on the family tradition from generations. Yet there is a standard food including the main major item, the turkey which is eaten by most people during Christmas. The size of the turkey also depends on the number of people in the family. So bigger families require more than one turkey. Others may cook ten or more turkeys for extra large groups of people in bigger families. Bigger companies tend to order the Christmas meals from a catering business and event planners.
This is more convenient because of lack of facilities and the resources to provide such grand scale meals by themselves without help. They organise the full course meals including drinks and desserts at a large venue or in a tent brought to the premises. The turkey is cooked for hours to ensure it is properly done and does not cause food poisoning in those who eat the meal. Others eat different meals such as lamb, chicken, fish, sea food according to their taste and available ingredients. Various meats are served with rice, the roasted potatoes, vegetables, fruits and nuts. Special nuts are also associated with Christmas and roasted to accompany main meal. This ensures a good selection of foods to cater for the non meat eating guests or family.
The preparations for Christmas meals sometimes starts from many months in advance to make special Christmas pudding. This is carefully prepared by storing bread pieces in a container and soaking it with a drink and turned to ensured it is thoroughly mixed. Then covered and left for so many months, baked in small portions kept wrapped until needed on Christmas day. Many different foods served are chosen from personal taste or general trends and location of people. Those near the coast tend to eat the local Seafoods. Or they bring food in from outside the region and country from other places where some foods are grown, produced in abundance. The senior members of the church and the families in need are given food boxes contributed towards by all to ensure all have a good time during Christmas. So people show kindness, compassion, love and goodwill towards all men. The homeless on the streets are also looked after by some and so invited indoors at this time. Some stay in beautiful warmer hostels, temporary accommodation or taken in by friendly generous hearted people.
Unfortunately limited resources mean some remain outside in the freezing cold so not all get this opportunity. Others receive hot food donated by charities or church or individuals in vans on the streets. They also give out warm winter clothes, coats. Christmas season is so special even enemies at times stop fighting to eat together on Christmas day. Only Jesus Christ has the power to soften hearts by the miracle to forgive each other for His Name Sake to please God. Unfortunately continue fightings afterwards as usual. Eating together is so important it helps get to know each other better to understand what goes on during discussions of each other’s day. Jesus cooked to feed the disciples and always participated in meals. He provided food many times during His minsistry to feed 5,000 people at one point not counting the women and children.

Christmas grief is a really intense pain of traumatic loss of loved ones. It is a feeling only those who lost loved ones know and understand. I lost my father as a child in December a few days before Christmas. For many years despite the deep genuine love of my mother, siblings, family or loved ones my Christmas was celebrated with a mixed feeling. My father’s loss was so immerse so stayed with me throughout my life. I felt numb, floated in haze not quite in the moment. Despite the gifts exchanged, joy, laughter, numerous conversations, snacks, food, tinsel decorations everywhere. I felt sad and ‘lonely’ in spite of gifts or wonderful family or friends or loved ones. I cried endlessly and frustrated by missing things my father did to help enhance my life. My loss affected me so I was cautious of deeply connecting in case I loved anyone too deeply and lost the anchored love again. For years, I did not fully enjoy Christmas season reminding me of grief, sorrow, pain, loss of father.
Yesterday, on my way to a meeting, I heard deep and intense sobbing behind me. So I stopped, turned around and it was a beautiful young woman. I hugged her, wiped tears from eyes, asked her to sit down and tell me why she cried. For next 5 minutes tears choked her words so she could not talk clearly. I asked her to breathe then heard a first few words “fiance” miscarriage.” I asked her to tell me what she meant. She continued, fiance left her, she felt alone and lost. But by caring for her dead sister’s 5 children she unexpectedly inherited, she never has her own natural child. I prayed with her, ressured her she is not alone because God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are with her. I promised to visit after attending meeting to talk more in depth with her.
After my meeting I carried on with the details of traumatic events unfolding in her life. It turned out she had to give up a successful career as travel rep abroad. She was well trained and has ambitions and goals for her future. She also loves music and recorded albums and sang with a few local celebrities. To my surprise, she calmed down enough at this point, so offered to sing for me. I was impressed by her great voice and talent. So I asked her why she stopped singing. It turned out the fiancé did not approve so little by little she gave up all to be at his beck and call. Despite her sacrifices and the loss of 2 miscarried babies he dumped her. She is concerned she may never marry or find someone special willing enough to commit to her with her beautiful, respectful children. She loves her inherited children but felt overwhelmed she may not fulfil desire to marry and have own children. This is why she was weeping openly on street when I met her because she felt lonely and sad. We realistically reviewed her situation so she felt God was letting her rediscover herself and talents again. 
She agreed to take good care of herself as no.1 and record her music again. This time she agrees to find a good husband the Godly way who will understand her sacrifices of love. I reassured her the greatest job on earth is to nurture God’s creation. She is raising these wonderful children who were surprised of her grief and sorrow. They too grieve loss of their mother too but assume all is well with her. She is a great home maker so lives in clean well decorated home. I pointed to her strength input of building others up many years as unsung hero without looking to anyone for help. We agreed it is never too late to marry and have own children or regain skills to record music while caring for special needs child. So loves to enjoy maternal experience too.
Wait for God’s timing which is the best. So many people hurt during Christmas with various stories. Yet no matter the pain, loss tears on pillow, heartache, tragedy or traumatic events God is Still on the Throne as the Sovereign King of the universe. So it is alright to cry out and not hide or bottle sad feelings. At times we feel grieg sadness experienced is too intense, unique or above our capability. God does not let anything happen to us without giving strength to go through. Because Jesus lives we face tomorrow with confidence. Father God Emmanuel is always with us to Comfort us. The Holy Spirit and Jesus bear us up in such low moments in life by intercession or groaning on our behalf as we hurt too much to express our feelings. So do cry if necessary and talk to someone. Pray constantly for God to heal your heart. Go through Christmas grief with hope.
