Ephesians 3:14-21 says for this cause 14 I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ 15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named 16 That HE will grant you the riches of HIS GLORY to be strengthened with might by HIS Spirit in your inner man. 17 So Christ dwell in your heart by faith to be rooted and grounded in love 18 To understand with saints the breadth, length, depth, height 19 Of God’s love in Christ which passes knowledge. Be filled with all fulness of God 20 To HIM who able to do exceeding abundantly above all we ask or think according to HIS POWER at work in us 21 To him be the GLORY in God’s Church in Christ Jesus throughout all ages world without end. Years ago praying for family members, uncle walks into room he’s not been before looked up removed Jesus poster above doorpost walked out without a word. He lived just few meters in his own home in Spirit felt Jesus empowered prayers got to him. Is encounter proving power of prayer through Holy Spirit in Jesus Name. I put Jesus photo back up and there is no distance in prayer. Jesus prayed for people at home whose relatives asked for His intervention.
Prayer changes things
POWER OF PRAYING CHURCH
Jesus said some problems are solved by prayer and fasting, ‘this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.’ In Matthew 17:21 the demon wasnot cast out by apostles asked Jesus told some challenges ONLY move after prayer and fasting. Jesus, perfect SON of God without sin fasted 40 days and nights before He chose His 12 apostles and launched His ministry. With God all things are possible but evil stubborn demons go by prayer and fasting. Authority and POWER is given to Jesus’ disciples to cast out demons, to raise the dead and heal the sick but could not deliver the boy. Jesus said this kind comes out by prayer and fasting in Mark 9:28, 29. A team must prepare before fighting spiritual battles in the Name of Jesus. Moses fasted 40 days on a mountain to receive commandments from God stone tablets in Deuteronomy 9:9-18. Moses did not eat food or drink water return from mountain of God to see people worship idols gods. Moses angrily broke tablets of stone went again on the mountain fasts another 40 days in Deuteronomy 9:18, 25, 26; 10:10 to replace with new tablet 10 Commandments of God.
David Fasted for Child’s Illness – 2 Samuel 12:1-23
David’s adultery with Bathsheba pregnant after husband Uriah killed so he took her as his wife. Nathan the prophet confronted David of his sin, he confessed and repented in 2 Samuel 12:1-14. David told the child will die after prophet left, the boy became ill. David went to pray and fast for his son. He knew God said the child would die, but hoped to find grace in the eyes of God. David refused to eat while child ill so after seventh day son died. David’s servants told him his child died cleaned himself stopped mourning and began to eat in 2 Samuel 12:15-20. Servants surprised by actions of king David said the child died nothing could be done. He will see his son in Heaven in 2 Samuel 12:23. Jonah shows God sent prophets to a nation to repent of sin. They took warnings of Jonah seriously prayed fasted for forgiveness from God. His message to people of Nineveh in Jonah 3:4 God uses this example to HIS people to pray to Seek God’s Face for HIS forgiveness. 
The king humbled himself to join fasting wore sackcloth to pray with the people to ask God to forgive them. Grace of God, Mercy, Compassion, Forgiveness is a life lesson of attitudes, humility shows God’s LOVE. God surprised angry Jonah changed his mind not to preach seeking revenge eye for eye tooth for tooth vengeance to forgive. God forgave Jonah did not let him drown. Jonah ready to take action for God to destroy them like Elijah on mount Carmel shocked God forgave all of them. Jesus appointed judge of all nations to reward those who love God will punish all who hate Jesus ONLY WAY to YAHWEH. Isaiah 58:1-12 told, Cry aloud, spare not lift your voice like a trumpet to show people transgression in house of Jacob their sins. 3 Seek God daily and delight to know HIS Ways as a nation in righteousness. Forsake not ordinance of God of justice to take delight in God. 4 Don’t say you fast but God sees it not or afflict your soul but didn’t take notice? In day of your fast take pleasure in your labours.
You fast in strife, debate smite with wickedness and fast to make your voice heard on high. 5 Is that the fast I CHOSE to afflicts souls? To bow head, spread sackcloth and ashes yet remain wicked? Is this the kind of fasts acceptable to the LORD? 6 Is it not better if fast chosen is to lose bands of wickedness to undo heavy burden to let oppressed go free break every yoke? 7 Do you share your bread with the hungry and bring the poor outside into your house? When you see the naked do you cover them or hide from your own flesh and blood? 8 If you are kind your Light will break forth as morning your HEALTH spring forth speedily. Your righteousness will go before you the GLORY of the LORD is your REWARD. 9 Then if you call the LORD shall ANSWER; if you cry, HE will say Here I AM. If you take away yoke stop speaking vanity. 10 If you draw your soul to the hungry and satisfy afflicted souls; your light rise and your righteousness as noonday. 11 The LORD will guide you continually and satisfy your SOUL in drought make fat your BONES. And you shall be like a well watered garden like spring of waters fail not. 12 Build old waste places raise foundations of MANY Generations. You will be crepairer of breach restorer of paths to dwell in.
Elijah Fasted to Escape Jezebel – 1 Kings 19:4-8
Jezebel threatened to kill prophet Elijah after he won a great victory over the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel. Elijah fled to Beer-sheba there he left a servant traveled another day in wilderness. Elijah found a juniper tree and rested, prayed to God to allow him to die. He did not really want to die. If he did he could have stayed where he was to let the queen do so. Elijah was discouraged lay down for a nap an angel came and fed him in 1 Kings 19:5, 6. Elijah ate food slept fed by angel second time prepared for journey. Elijah traveled 40 days in the strength of food until he arrived at Mount Horeb in 1 Kings 19:7, 8. Same mountain Moses received 10 Commandments was called Mount Sinai during Moses’ time.
Ezra Fasted Mourning Over Sin – Ezra 10:6-17
Jews returned to the land Israel from Babylonian captivity they disobeyed God’s laws in captivity. Ezra gathered people together to confront their sins. Ezra 10:6 fasted 3 days waiting for people to gather didn’t eat any bread only drank water during fast. Fasted to mourning sins of those carried away returned to Israel. They copied idol worship mingled with ONE TRUE GOD’S LOVE AND POWER of Authority. Many served God but practiced occult idol rituals. He had to teach the Torah and Bible commands of pure dedication to God’s promise in HIS Covenant to listen, hear their prayer answer them. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. God is actively involves in the affairs of earth expects first to be consulted before taking action not see psychics or fortune tellers. God forbids HIS Children to be involved in necromancy, palm reading but read His WORDS for wisdom. Mixture of HIS worship with idolatory sends enemies to defeat them to repent. GOD’S GOSPEL MESSAGE is for all the nations not just Israel. People to repent pray and fast to break curses to accept Jesus Christ. 
Esther Fasts for Safety of Jews – Esther 4:15-17
Mordecai heard the Jews to be exterminated from kingdom of Ahasuerus Iran. This kingdom stretched from India to Ethiopia in Esther 1:1 is planning genocide of Jews. Haman, did not like Mordecai or Jews angry Mordecai did not show him respect. Esther a Jew Haman didn’t know it. Mordecai’s cousin Esther ask to petition the king to spare Jews. Royal tradition forbids Esther to enter king’s court without invitation queen can be killed approaching king unvitated in Esther 4:11. Mordecai told Esther God put her position in the kingdom for purpose of saving Jews in Esther 4:14. Approached king, asked Mordecai Jews should fast 3 days without food or drink. She fasted in same manner Esther is accepted in presence of king so the Jewish people saved.
Darius Fasts For Safety of Daniel – Daniel 6:18-23
King Darius tricked to sign law puts his friend Daniel in grave danger. The fake law proposed 30 days none to pray or ask help from any deity or power except the king. The men who wrote the law knew Daniel prayed three times a day to God. The king signed the law to trap Daniel and get rid of him from the kingdom in Daniel 6:4-9. The punishment for crime was to be cast into a den of lions. Daniel prayed to God was brought before the king who had no ability to back out of law though Daniel was his friend. King Darius hoped Daniel’s God is Powerful will save Daniel from being eaten. Darius went home and fasted in Daniel 6:18. The king didn’t allow music to be played that night didn’t sleep. King Darius was relieved to find Daniel survived night in the lion’s den. Daniel’s enemies out if jealousy plotted to kill him fell into trap set against Daniel. The king ordered all wicked men and their families to be thrown in a lion’s den perished mauled by lions. Daniel’s loyalty to God protected from evil plans of enemies against Daniel. If under attack fast and pray and fast for God’s Intervention in Jesus Name. Darius proclaims Daniel’s God is a TRUE God declared God’s POWER is GREATER than all other kingdoms of earth and God’s KINGDOM to be established forever in Daniel 6:25-28.
Daniel Fasts for Answer to Prayer – Daniel 10:1-3 prayed to understand of a vision in Daniel 10:2 -3 fasted 3 weeks. The vision Daniel saw people of God’s future is 70 years end time visions still happening on earth. Daniel abstained from meat bread and wine Daniel’s fasts in Daniel 1:12, 15, 16 eats fruits, vegetables, whole grains, drinks water. God helps humble pure heart who desires to draw close to God in return God Draws closer to reveal HIS SECRETS of future events to them. To know in advance to prepare against evil time. Fasting time set aside seeks the Face of God by prayer, worship, meditation from concrete jungle life and noisy pollution hard to focus on God. So adverts vying for attention distract necessary to retreat to reflect privately in prayer for clarity of mind to hear God properly. Depending on family and friends for advise good but spiritual warfare Jesus says needs fasting and prayer first from time to time to grow mature from baby Christian to a seasoned soldier of Christ.
Jesus Fasts in wilderness chose 12 – Matthew 4:1-2
Jesus was tempted by satan and before His public ministry fasted 40 days and nights. Bible says Jesus is led by Holy Spirit in the wilderness in Matthew 4:1. Christ chose 12 apostles after a personal attack of satan. Jesus defeated satan hungry spiritually prepared for such temptation. Number of days is symbolicel to God’s purpose for fasting. Jesus did best fast for His calling is empowered by God to start His ministry. Fasting is possible not to eat and drink depends on your assignment, health or doctor’s permission if not used to fastinh. These ooptions depends on the person fasting to God for strength to serve God and do miracles. Jesus taught disciples to fast, to cast out demons, raise the dead, heal all sick. Jesus nastered physical desires not eating and drinking for Spiritual Strength, Authority, POWER over satan. As Kingdom of God suffers violence Spiritually violent take it by force in Jesus Name. Jesus’ wonderful is a command to the believers to continue apostolic ministry of Jesus on earth till Rapture; Return to Reign and Rule all nations.
Paul Fasted After Conversion – Acts 9:1-9
Paul persecuted Christians permitted by Jewish leadership to go to Damascus to arrest all who haf6 allegiance to Christ. On way to Damascus Saul encountered changed to Paul a bright light blinded Paul, stayed in Damascus, 3 days, didn’t eat or drink water in Acts 9:9 repents for all evil things dond. Paul had a strong relationship with LORD in Acts 19:11-20 did special miracles. By the hands of Paul 12 from his body taken to sick handkerchiefs or aprons, diseases departed and evil spirits went out of them. 13 But vagabond Jews, exorcists with evil spirits tried to copy the name of the Lord Jesus, said we command you by Jesus, Paul preached to come out. 14 Seven sons of Sceva, a Jew and chief priest’s sons.15 Evil spirit answered Jesus I know, Paul I know so who are you? 16 The evil spirit leaped on them overcame them they fled outside house naked and wounded. 17 Known to all Jews and Greeks at Ephesus fear fell them the Name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. 18 Many believed came and confessed show their deeds. 19 Those who used magic or spells brought books and burned them before all counted the price fifty thousand pieces of silver. 20 So mightily grew the WORD of GOD and prevailed. Seven sons of Sceva did not deliver man didn’t fast or pray copied Jesus and Paul had to be delivered themselves. Do not tackle demon unless trained to do so. Gadarene demoniac had thousand demons legion cast out entered pigs drowned in sea in Galilee. Do not underestimate deliverance ministry to copy what you see others doing. Pray and fast and ask God to give Grace to do SPECIAL MIRACLES like Paul Jesus, other pastors anointed in the deliverance ministry. 
Church Elders in Antioch Fast Send Missionaries – Acts 13:1-3
Barnabas took Paul to Antioch so elders knew Barnabas worked to train Paul in teachings of Christianity. After fasting and prayer Holy Spirit told leaders of the church to separate Paul and Barnabas for a special work in Acts 13:2, 3. The two men sent by church were first missionaries. Barnabas and Paul’s journey preach everywhere they went. More examples of fasting in Bible but 10 above gives insight to reasons and types of fasts Bible teaches. Jesus said during endtime evil unseen before never after will take place on earth. Churches testimony delivers believer who share details of occult evil world thought helping them. The devil’s end approaching intensify evil attacks because time is short. Christians must wake up to pray and fast for GOD to SHORTEN evil days or nobody will live on earth. Prayer and fasting strengthens and empowers believer into higher realms with God defeats devil. So Charles Wesley didn’t ordain Methodist minister unless committed to praying and fasting Wednesdays and Fridays each week. The spirit of a gluttony partying proves prospetity gospel obesity is the battle faced by the Church. Prayer and fasting detoxes body good for health. I have done the Daniel fast for years for various reasons. Thanks for the new up date on fasts
Very insightful…I have recently resigned from permanent employment to start my own business, but things are going slow. I have considered fasting and wonder if fasting for my business’ success is the right or Christian thing to do? Would this be considered to be selfish by God?
no, it wouldn’t be selfish; just make sure you are tithing and giving offerings beyond your tithe and God should give you some insight when you are fasting.
with God all is possible in a casual working but with God I now will fast for a permanent position

I think it’s important to note that Daniel was NOT fasting. He was in mourning. Read Daniel 10 and notice that no where is the word “fast” used. I do not believe that the “Daniel Fast” is a biblical form of fasting. Other fasts in Scripture are complete abstinence from food sometimes both food and water. Fasting and mourning similar but separate disciplines. Sometimes mourning is accompanied by fasting, but not always. Remember Jesus said fasting in Matthew 6:16-18? we are to comb our hair, & wash our face, no indication we are fasting, only people who know what we’re doing are those who absolutely have to. Daniel was in mourning so not washing his face. It’s says in Daniel 10 did not use lotions or take care of him self at all. How could his fasting be doing exact opposite of what Jesus taught in Matthew 6? Christians do great disservice by “partial fast.” There is no biblical grounds for it. There is no substitute for a complete fast from all foods for period of time. Some practice “Daniel fast” so they want to eat a little healthier. Well that’s great, but DON’T confuse healthy eating with fasting, and certainly don’t replace wonderful spiritual discipline like fasting with something as superficial as giving up a few types of food. I hope that no one here hears me the wrong way. I’m not trying to criticize anyone who practiced the “Daniel Fast.” I’m trying to help us all understand Biblically the true and most effective way to fast.
But don’t forget while you are correct Jesus explains fasting in Matthew, Daniel was in the Old Testament, before Jesus came, could follow Torah in Jesus teachings. Daniel Fast, can be taken from Daniel 1, when he and his friends first taken to Babylon. Requested he, with Hananiah, Mishael, Azariah (Shadrac, Meshac, and Abednego) be given only fruits, vegetables, and water to compare them to the other Israelites. This is fast detailed in the Daniel fast, rather than his mourning in Daniel 10.

Not all passages say fast only with water. It really does not matter that much my friend. Fasting is afflicting oneself and that’s the main thing, to humble one self.
I believe the most common fast in Bible is three day fast. For example people of Nineve, Queen Esther, Paul, and Jonah fasted three days. Three successive Sabbaths of the crucifixion; Passover (14th), the normal Sabbath (15th), and Feast of First Fruits (16th), symbolically stand for three day’s fast, I believe, followed b five days of rebuilding the body with veggies and roasted meat, such as, chicken and fish (feast of unleavened bread).

Hello Casher2. Thank you but that doesn’t mean everyone should fast without water. There is no command in the Bible to fast and include water. Some do, but not in all cases. Thank you.
Keep in mind not everyone should fast food. Some people who suffer with eating disorders should probably not fast food. Consult with a doctor, and pastor first before to make sure you are doing it for the right reasons. I have had this issue. When I have tried fasting food, it always ended up for the wrong reason, underneath it all. No pun intended but food for thought. I thought I would be fine, but quickly discovered I can not fast food.
