God 2 will gather all nations and bring them to valley of Jehoshaphat. God will put them on trial for what they did to My Heritage Inheritance, My people Israel, because they scattered my people to remove them far from their border among nations and divided up my land. They scattered Israel among nations and parted My Land 3 They cast lots for my people and traded boys for prostitutes; they sold girls for wine to drink. The captors cast lots for prisoners in Obadia 11; Nahum 3:10, for defenseless children traded and sold for purposes of debauchery in Amos 2:6. God’s legal charge against Tyre and Sidon coastal Phoenicia and the regions of Philistia coastal Palestine in Joshua 13:2, 3 concerns involvement in capturing and trading Israelites as prisoners of war. God finally takes back power from His enemies to enrich Israel. God will restore all the years the canker worm, palmer worms and locusts devoured as God Delivers His people. Both regions sold Israelites as slaves to the Greeks and to Edom in Amos 1:6,9. 4 “Now what have you against me, Tyre and Sidon and all you coasts of Palestine in regions of Philistia? Are you repaying me for something I have done? If you are paying me back, I will swiftly and speedily return on your own heads what you have done. The land’s silver and gold, as well as its inhabitants, belonged to the Lord in Haggai 2:8. 5 Yet you took my silver and my gold and carried off my finest treasures to your temples. 6 You sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks, that you might send them far from their homeland. God will lead His restored people to inflict His punishment on all who fight Him. See, I am going to rouse them out of the places to which you sold them and I will return on your own heads what you have done.8 I will sell your sons and daughters to people of Judah and they will sell them to Sabean nation far away.”The Sabaeans or Sabeans in Arabic: السبئيون as-Saba’iyūn in Hebrew: סבא) were an ancient people speaking an Old South Arabian language who lived in what is today Yemen, in the south west of the Arabian Peninsula. The Sabeans are mentioned in the Bibleas a distant people (Joel 3:8), famous traders (Ezekiel 27:22-3; 38:13; Job 6:19), The genealogies ofGenesis connect them now with Dadan, as sons of Regma (10:7; cf. 1 Chronicles 1:9) and of Jecsan(25:3; cf. 1 Chronicles 1:32), now with Asarmoth (Hadhramôt), as sons of Jecsan (10:26-28, cf., 1 Chronicles 1:20-22). the Sabeans moved south in the eighth or ninth century and established their kingdom on the ruins of the Minaean power. There is no escaping God’s judgments; hardened sinners, in that day of wrath, shall be cut off from all comfort and joy. Most of the prophets foretell the same final victory of the church of God over all that oppose it. To the wicked it will be a terrible day, but to the righteous it will be a joyful day. What cause have those who possess an interest in Christ, to glory in their Strength and their Redeemer! The acceptable year of the Lord, a day of such great favour to some will be a day of remarkable vengeance to others. Let every one in Christ awake and pray to flee from wrath to come.
This and the following verses, instead of expressly narrating the execution of the Divine command, present a picture of it. In one part the prophet sees in vision and shows us pictorially the multitudes of the nations pouring on in one continuous stream into the fatal valley. In another compartment of the picture, Jehovah is seen in the awfulness of his majesty and in the fearfulness of his judgements on the wicked, while he is a Refuge and Strength for his people. God issues invitation to battle to nations to be defeated by God.10 Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears. Let the weak say, I am strong 11 Come quickly all nations from all sides to assemble with your warriors against God.
