Some wilderness desert lifestyle experiences are to help equip to prepare for destiny. A wilderness life is not glamorous experience but stressful, full of frustrations and disappointments. Wilderness life seems like a time of strenuous punishment. without the luscious greenery and beautiful scenery as a blank canvass. As the pressure mounts, there are moments of oasis to build up strength for resistance to help overcome the difficult terrains. A wilderness adventure causes one to improvise to sustain impossible uncomfortable lifestyle. Although it is hard to make life easier for loved ones, God chose Moses to lead millions of people in the wilderness. This tested his patience and skills as a leader in the leader in such hostile landscape. Yet it helped to enhance his leadership qualities into the person he became. Moses’ character forming upbringing moments in endurance skills, hardships, survival as people grew weary.
Numbers 12:1-3, described Moses as a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth. Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite. 2 “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses?” they asked. “Hasn’t he also spoken through us?” And the Lord heard this. Pretty soon, the people complain Moses’ wife a non-Hebrew darker skin. Numbers 12:2-4, shows Aaron plus Miriam, the beloved sister attack Moses about Zipporah the Cushite Ethiopian woman. God said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, Come out to the tent of meeting, 5 The Lord came down in pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance to the tent so summoned Aaron and Miriam to step forward, 6 God said, “Listen to my words:“When there is a prophet among you, I, God reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams.7 But my true servant Moses is faithful in all my house. 8 With Moses I speak face to face, clearly not in riddles; Moses sees the form of God. Why were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?” 9 The anger of God burned against them and God left them. 10 When cloud lifted above tent Miriam’s skin was leprous as white as snow.
Aaron turned toward her and saw that she had a defiling skin disease, 11 and he said to Moses, “Please, my lord, I ask you not to hold sin against us foolishly committed. 12 Do not let her be like a stillborn child coming from mother’s womb with its flesh half eaten away.”13 So Moses cried out to the Lord, “Please, God heal her!” God answered Moses prayer and 14 The Lord replied to Moses, “If her father had spit in her face, would she not have been in disgrace for 7 days? Confine her outside the camp for 7 days after that she can be brought back.” 15 So Miriam was confined outside camp for 7 days, and the people did not move on till she was brought back. 16 After that, the people left Hazeroth and encamped in the Desert of Paran after God healed her. God remembered how she protected and saved Moses at the Nile river and her songs of praise as a prophetess thanking God. Despite tragedy of Miriam’s example warning people complained for lack of sophisticated luxury lifestyle enjoyed in living in luxurious Egypt.
Not long after leaving Egypt people missed their lavish crumbs from Pharaoh’s rich table. Some people whose god is their belly and end destruction, complained about food in Exodus 16:3 and said, “If only we had died by the LORD’s hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve entire assembly to death. The people complained with greedy desires, wanting, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic of Egypt. In Numbers 11:1, they said they preferred Egyptian vegetables in bondage than eating manna in freedom in the desert. A species of cucumber peculiar to Egypt, smooth, of a longish cylindrical shape, and about a foot long. Prosper Alpinus says that it differs from the common sort by its size, colour and softness; leaves smaller, whiter, softer, and rounder; its fruit larger, greener, smoother, softer, sweeter, more easy of digestion. Hasselquist describes as little watery, firm like melon, sweet, cool to taste but not cold as watermelon.
God was angry with ungrateful insolent ingratitude to generous leaders who sacrificed for them so displeased God. God Heard unappreciation of Moses who gave up lavish, luxury lifestyle of palace to identify with those suffering in bondage in Egypt. Moses altogether spent 80 years in these wilderness of which 40 was as a shepherd and the other 40 as leader of the Hebrews with Aaron his brother helping him. In Numbers 14:1, that night all the members of the community raised their voices and wept aloud. 2So grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, “If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this wilderness!3 Why is God Lord bringing us to this land to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder. Would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt?” 4 They said to each other, “We should choose a leader to go back to Egypt.”All who grumbled against Moses, Aaron and whole assembly said, “If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this wilderness!
Due to people’s moaning, complaining, lack of submission, non- compliance, chaos, the 11 day journey from Egypt to the land of Canaan turned into 40 years in the wilderness desert, going round and round in circles. So felt ungrateful and impoverished for the short- term manna diet which could have detoxed and cleared body system. So refreshed and ready for the fresh produce of the land flowing with milk and honey. They could have settled more quickly after 11 days, planted own leeks, cucumber, water melon, garlic, onions, harvested fish from the sea to feed themselves. So it shows deep degradation and absolute necessity of the decree that debarred that generation from entering the promised land in Numbers 14:29-35. Their expression of anger and frustration irritated God for after toiling as slaves for 400 years waiting in timeline for 11 days was child play. Having adapted to superficial gluttony lifestyle of luxury, were impatient to receive instructions, inheritance, to continue Godly family business name to run God’s Enterprise. They knew the wilderness was a dry drought place of hardship, isolation, loneliness, lack, shortages and famine. The tundra was ruined by flood, ice age, tectonic plate, deserts which continue for centuries. So totally erased parts of green landscape of globe depriving it from green pasture vegetation so rivers turned dry into arid deserts. This contributed to movement of people and animals globally in ancient past times and even today to recreate new settlements inland for rich green vegetation.
