CHRIST CHURCH

In Revelation 1:20, the apostle saw the Lord Jesus Christ appear  in the midst of 7 golden candlestick lamp stands. John’s revelation vision of Christ is about warnings to the 7 churches Christ expressed passion about. These 7 candlesticks represent the characteristics of seven eras of God’s Church. The book of Revelation records 7 messages to seven churches that existed in Asia Minor but is still relevant today to modern churches. So these 7 types of churches still exist now representing broad umbrella composite of various genres, types and styles of churches read about in Revelation 1:10-12. The symbol the Lord used in this vision to apostle John mentions seven congregations located in Asia Minor. So  Christ is at the center and heart of the church by His Authority in Matthew 28:18-20. The church at Corinth was rebuked for allowing impurity to go on without action in Corinthians 5:2-8.

The Lord warns to repent from ongoing sin in church at Ephesus and the other various churches. All must repent or Christ is coming to remove lamp stand out of its place  in Revelation 2:5; 2:16; 3:3. John writes: “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a sound of a trumpet, saying, ‘Write in a book what you see, and send it to the 7 churches in Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, Laodices in Revelation 1:10-11 & 20. Christ showed 7 stars to John in Right hand, and 7 golden lamp stands, the 7 stars are angels of 7 churches.  Thyatira is challenged as Christ reassures 7 churches He is always with His church to end of the world. Jesus stands in center of 7 golden lamp stand candle sticks in Revelation 1:13-20, to strengthen His church as a sign of approval of aspects He Agrees with and warns against strife and discord. ImageThe  fields are ripe with harvest so church must stop bickering over text contents to focus and work together to win more souls for Christ. The 7 churches are to change and do God’s Will.Above all, the Church of Christ must respect, honour, valour women like Deborah, Esther, Ruth, Mary, Hannah, Dorcas, Virtuous woman among others. Jezebel is misinterpreted to disregard the active role of women in church. They are vilified and blamed like Eve for causing sin and fall of man yet it takes two to tango. The church grinds to halt without women. Great women of dignity and integrity are overlooked due to fear they overtake or ruin like Jezebel controlled Ahab her husband and nation with idolatry. However, Jezebel was unbeliever not in church who abused her political connections to attack God’s people. So the crucial role played by anointed women is undervalued and trivialized.
Such men monopolize God by exclusive leadership they relegate women to mundane roles of cleaning the church. The lamp stands are gold symbolizing the precious great value for refined gold purity. The 7 golden lamp stands the Lord used symbolize all churches about good successes and issues of these 7 churches. We simply notice some characteristics of the local church from the lamp stand symbol.   Jesus spoke by the Holy Spirit to reveal visions symboling lifestyle of churches to help them grow in character traits of discipleship;  love, joy and peace in Philippians 3:12-14,Galatians 1:11,12; Acts 2:42. Jesus confirmed in Peter the rock solid foundation His church is built on which the gates of hell cannot prevail against. This first church of Christ started from day of Pentecost when 5,000 received Christ as personal Saviour by Peter’s preaching. The 7 stars and 7 lamp stands are faithful believing saints symbolised by todays churches in existence. Concerning the church in Jerusalem, the Bible says, in Matthew 18:17 be at peace with all. Christian believers gathering together in church in different places for the purpose of worship are to constantly remember salvation daily to be hot for God or else Christ will spew out cold ones. The Church expands globally since Ethiopian Eunuch to Africa, apostles to India and parts of the world. God ‘s church from Scripture is  marching on in victory filled with the 7 spirits of God. The Lord uses 7 golden candlesticks to represent many churches. 7 lamps stands are 7 churches strong excellent points. The church refers to people globally in the universal sense, those who obey the gospel by faith in Ephesians 1:22,23. God’s perfect number is 7 so body of believers fellowship together by faith and worship God.

Romans 16:16; 2 Corinthians 1:1; 1 Corinthians 16:10 says to serve God. Ministers are also 7 stars leading church of Christ to victory in Jesus Name. There two sides of the church are the spiritual Divine and the physical human aspects of Christianity. The Divine Aspect is Christ the Perfect Head of the church. The reborn again members of the Christ body grow from Glory to Glory as Christ dwells in believer’s heart by faith by listening and obeying Christ the Head. The seven golden lamp stands therefore represent perfection Christ requires. The Divine side of God is perfect so He designs local churches to become more like that state of Christ. Walking in Jesus’ footsteps by church improves growth spiritually. Christ said, “Do not be afraid, I am the first and the last, the living One; I was dead, behold I am alive forevermore, I have the keys of death and of Hades in Revelation 1:17 b-18. His death purchased the church with His blood in Acts 20:28. Most churches come under 7 categories mentioned by Christ so a church’s attribute is relevant to function and location.

The 7 churches reveals similarities and unique circumstances all churches deal with in context.  7 is God’s perfect number so there are 7 churches, 7 candle sticks revealing 7 spirits of  God. The sword in His mouth is judgment starting from church in 1 Peter 4:7 before the rapture and second coming. Christ is Word of God’s truth spoken in John 1:1, 17:17. The word of God directs us to Christ, Light of the world in John 3:19-21; 8:12. A church is the light of God so traditions, creeds and doctrines of men through debates and arguments of meaning is not blessing the church.  This is why it is so important to preach the word faithfully in season and out of season as the Light and salt of the world. Many literal interpretations and meanings exist by various people on vision of 7 angels and 7 churches. Each believer runs race to win the prize to seek God’s face to continue dwelling in the House of God in Christ Jesus and winning souls until Christ returns for church to take to heaven.

1. The church’s one foundation
Is Jesus Christ her Lord,
She is His new creation
By water and the Word.
From heaven He came and sought her
To be His holy bride;
With His own blood He bought her,
And for her life He died.

2. Elect from every nation,
Yet one over all the earth;
Her charter of salvation,
One Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy Name she blesses,
Partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses,
With every grace endued.

3. Though with a scornful wonder
Men see her sore oppressed,
By schisms rent asunder,
By heresies distressed,
Yet saints their watch are keeping;
Their cry goes up, “How long?”
And soon the night of weeping
Shall be the morn of song.

4. The church shall never perish,
Her dear Lord to defend
To guide, sustain and cherish,
Is with her to the end
Though there be those that hate her,
And false sons in her pale
Against a foe or traitor,
She ever shall prevail

5. Mid toil and tribulation,
And tumult of her war,
She waits the consummation
Of peace forevermore;
‘Til, with the vision glorious,
Her longing eyes are blessed,
And the great church victorious
Shall be the church at rest.

6. Yet she on earth hath union
With God the Three in One,
And mystic sweet communion
With those whose rest is won.
O happy ones and holy!
Lord, give us grace that we
Like them, the meek and lowly,
On high may dwell with Thee.

MUSIC: Brian Moss actually wrote this tune for his own wedding, and it has been used in many weddings since. There is a lead sheet alternate version that includes the bridge as the song appeared on the original Indelible Grace CD.
